 Kevin's Korner!

St.Kilian's bowed out of the Leinster Cup at the second stage of the competition after a hardly fought game against a tough Kilkenny team on Monday the 12th. Although they were missing keys players such as Luke Mcmanus,Corey Fylnn nd Aaron Earls they still managed to give the All-Ireland Champions, St. Kieran's a run for their money.

The first half started quite slowly with both teams a bit hesitant to push forward. Chances were few and far between. Both defences were playing class and our two center-halves Gav Lacey and Jake Mulligan were influential throughout the whole match and with help from our two full backs Gary Hopkins and Mark Murphy the St. Kilian's defence look very solid. The first half ended goalless, with both teams having very few chances.

The second half started very well for St. Kilian's. Richy Walsh really came to life in the first 20 minutes of the half controlling the midfield. With the aid of Robert Healy who was having a stormer of a game St. Kilian's looked like the more likely team to score. Stephen Kearney and Jason Clancy were causing havoc to the St. Kieran's defence. Stephen Kearney was handed a goaled opportunity but as unable to finish with his left foot. St.Kilian's did eventually score when Robbie Healy latched onto a class pass from Richy Walsh and coolly passed the ball past the on coming keeper.

Unfortunately that was the beginning of the end for St. Kilian's. We failed to build on the lead and St. Kieran's showed why they were the All-Ireland champs. The match ended 3-1 to St. Kieran's.

Although they lost the boys made us proud and played a fair match.

This is the first of hopefully many installments in Kevin's Korner!!!
